Industrial representation and the negotiating power of Australia's strongest Union

The CFMEU has negotiated an Enterprise Bargaining Agreement (EBA) with most employers in the building industry, which provides for personal accident insurance through CIPS. There is also provision for the transfer of unused sick leave at the point of termination to a centralised fund.

Travel Insurance to make sure you're covered no matter where you are

Financial members, including their accompanying spouses and/ dependent children who travel with them, will now be covered for travel insurance at no cost to the member. Duration of travel and age limits apply for travel registration visit: qnt.cfmeu.org.

BOBB – Travel Insurance Registration

All your union fees are fully tax deductable

When doing your tax, make sure your tax agent knows that all your CFMEU membership fees are fully tax deductible. For further information please contact the CFMEU office on 3231 4600.

Funeral Cover for you, your partner and dependent children

Your CFMEU QNT Membership automatically provides you with funeral cover for financial members (age limit applies) and their immediate family.

You will be reimbursed for the cost of the funeral service up to a maximum of $15,000.

Our union proudly shoulders the financial burden when families are suffering and have more important things to focus on.

Apprentice scholarship scheme

Do you have a son or daughter interested in starting an apprenticeship in the building or civil construction industry?

The CFMEU has an apprenticeship scholarship program to assist our member’s children and others to get a start in life as an apprentice in the construction industry.

The scheme recruits and places applicants with participating employers. We have fulltime field officers employed to ensure our apprentices are correctly trained.

Natural Disaster

A maximum $5,000 benefit payable upon proven financial hardship suffered due to a natural disaster in your impacted area. This benefit is available to all CFMEU financial members through BERT.

Free Accidental Dental Cover

CFMEU members and their immediate families (your spouse or de-facto partner, dependent children under 16 and fulltime students under 25) may claim for dental costs for procedures to their teeth caused by accidental damage. There are a set of guidelines for claiming, so for more information please call the Dental Cover claims office on 1300 261 114.

Child Care Cover

In the event of the death of a member’s spouse, financial members can access assistance with childcare payments for up to 2 years, through the BERT Welfare Fund, for children up to the age of 13 who are living with the member.

CFMEU Wage Claims

The CFMEU Wage Claim department recovers underpayments of superannuation, redundancy or wages owed to members and we pursue claims for members such as unfair dismissals, victimisation etc. Call our office and ask for a Wage Claim Form to be sent to you if this situation arises.

Financial Planning

BERT provides free Financial Planning as an industry benefit to members. You can get advice on investing in the future, retirement planning, budgeting, and financial hardship. For assistance in any of these areas contact BERT Financial Services on: 1300 261 114.

Ambulance Cover for NT and members that live in NSW

All financial members of the QLD/NT Branch of the CFMEU who are living in NT and NSW are covered for emergency ambulance use. To make a claim please call our office on (07) 3231 4600.

Legal Services provided by Turner Freeman

On referral from the CFMEU, your first consultation is free of charge with Turner Freeman Lawyers. You receive comprehensive advice and assistance in workers compensation and all personal injury claims. Plus, you receive free wills and discounted services in family law, criminal law, and conveyancing through MacDonald Law.

Superannuation with BUSSQ

BERT provides free FinancBUSSQ is an industry superannuation fund set by construction unions. This fund is managed solely for the benefit of its members and all profits belong to members.
